PHP Architect’s Pro-PHP Podcast: Partnering for Greater Effectiveness
Over the last month, Marco Tabini, Chris Cornutt, Sean Coates and I have been hammering out the details of a partnership between PHP|Architect and our podcast. I’m sure you all have seen that the frequency of the podcasts have been… well… infrequent. Jackson Miller covers the reasons why podcasting isn’t more popular pretty well. In my case, it was just a lot of work, and while I loved doing it, it was sometimes hard to justify the time it required to put a show together. The tough part for me was that the podcast was really popular. Way more popular than I thought it could have ever been. I have been approached by many people who wanted to use the podcast as a vehicle to promote their endeavor, business etc., but Marco and php|a were the first to come to the table with a solution that would make the podcast more stable, free me up to do what I really love which is hosting the show, and actually improve the quality of the broadcasts in several ways. I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of the agreement and the work done by php|a so far. I think what we have designed together will provide a consistent voice for the PHP programming language, it’s community and it’s effectiveness in the enterprise.
I will be doing an interview every two weeks. This is manageable, consistent and a big step up from where we have been. The reason why we can do this is because of php|a’s awesome webcast technology and their adept handling of the hosting, streaming and maintenance of the shows. You can look forward to Chris providing a newscast every two weeks, which I may help out with on occasion. Chris has been such an incredible resource for PHP, being the most comprehensive full time news source for PHP happenings online. Having him bring his expertise to the newscast on a bi-weekly basis is really going to be a treat for all of us. The newscasts will not be broadcast live like the interviews will.
Timing is everything. As soon as Marco asked me to figure out my first show, Andi Gutmans emailed me and asked if we were still up for doing a show. Go ahead and sign up today and put it on your calendar, because I will be sure to get as much out of Andi in that hour as I possibly can. 2006 is an incredibly crucial year for PHP, and so much of it’s success *is* dependant on the success of Zend’s PCP and the Zend Framework to compete (and hopefully trail blaze) in the next generation of web application frameworks. My sincere hope is that the community will use the podcast as a forum to push PHP to it’s fullest potential, and that the business world can look to the podcast as a sign of PHP’s stability, maturity and progressiveness.
I just wanted to thank the thousands of listeners out there for their support and encouragement. You’ve helped to make this hobby into a success. Cheers.
