[...] I have been tagged in one of those blog meme things. I am now supposed to share 7 things about myself; some random, some weird. I have only been tagged for a meme 3 or 4 times in the 7+ years that I have been blogging (that is fun fact #1). I have always assumed that I am not tagged for memes because people either don’t find me that interesting or they think I am an arrogant prick who will ignore them (both positions are defensible). So, thanks for asking Marcus. [...]

Embarq sucks! I should know I am in the HSI department there. They use third party contractors like US Support Company, Tag, etc. who read from prepared scripts and are not allowed to roll a repair truck without supervisor approval which sometimes does not happen. Also they have a metric of how many repair calls should be in each area each month and NO supervisor will exceed it regardless of the emergency.
Embarq exec's came down to us back in Feb 08 just giddy and beside themselves because they have a new sales strategy for HSI ...They call it the drug dealer strategy...all they have to do is just dial up the speed according to them but since we have a market area that no other companies besides Comcast really want.. due to overhead of rebuilding the existing and expanding new ones, they have developed this strategy that they presented in " Know and Go's" throughout the country ...the exact words were/...get them hooked and then jack up the price as we dial up the speed which cost us nothing more for 1.5 meg than it does for 10 meg..it is just llike hooking them on dope and they have no choice but to get it from us!

Real nice company..They also make customers wait on hold as long as possible so hopefully they will hang up and that is one less trouble call they have to worry about some poor sap rolling a truck out on..I have been told to lie to old ladies and then be told at the end of the call don't worry about it it is the end of the month, one less truck roll this month. They hate sending field techs out !!

Comcast is starting now to eat their lunch real bad and they are already looking for a way out and planning in coming months to go whole hog into the cell market with a " budget sister group like sprint,,,,they lie so much that we as employees never believe anything they say..

I agree with Stan's comment above.

I won't lie, I too use Myspace, but I also enjoy my time on <b><a href="http://r.yuwie.com/chadhalterman" rel="nofollow"> Yuwie</a></b> as well.

Yuwie is filled with a great team of people and the founder of it all actually listens to what we have to say; and takes it into consideration.

That's more than I can say about most sites who tend to completely ignore their users once they've gained ground in the market and are earning a healthy living.

Unlike many other social sites, <b><a href="http://r.yuwie.com/chadhalterman" rel="nofollow"> Yuwie</a></b> is taking a twist on the whole social networking trend and actually sharing a part of its advertising revenue with its users.

Sure its pennies at first, but its still a baby only having a little over 500,000 members compared to the 200 million of Myspace and is likely more money than you'll ever see from Myspace or Facebook alike.

So, why not give Yuwie a shot? It's free to sign up and you might be surprised to find that its not all that different than Myspace or Facebook aside from what I find to be a much more mature and family oriented audience.

Oh, and one more thing, Yuwie, DOES NOT tolerate spam. So, you won't have to worry about being harassed by those pesky porn bots with pictures of half naked girls begging to be your friend or the comment spam bots posing as your buddies rejoicing over how they just won a "$500 Macy's giftcard".

Yuwie pays by Paypal or Check, $5 cashout for Paypal and $25 for a check, and who doesn't use Paypal nowadays? Sure Paypal isn't without it's flaws, but it still commands the lead over being one of the most safest and easiest ways to transfer money online.

<b><a href="http://r.yuwie.com/chadhalterman" rel="nofollow">Join Yuwie!</a></b>

EMBARQ SUCKS. IT SUKS LIKE THE FRICKING WORST OF THE WORST.

Their online email system was obviously chosen by someone who got a payoff and kickbacks. it is a huge stinking piece of dog turd crapped out by someone who HATES their own customers. guess what: WE HATE YOU TOO!

read all the complaints at dslreports.com

This is one of the worst, anti-consumer, anti-customer companies ever conceived.

I too am a farm country Embarq user with only dial-up service. I called the number in the "get high-speed" ad in our local paper (as I do every 2 or three months for the last year and a half). And was told, yet again, that they had no plans for high-speed in our area. They said the same thing to friends a few miles away and then suddenly they had high-speed. And the guy I talked to at Embarq said there was no dept. that handled this situation. He then suggested that I talk to the engineers in the field. Apparently they have control but no supervisors! Would appreciate any info anyone could provide on how and who to approach about getting high-speed. Can't say I want Earthlink - had that in Vegas 3 years ago and had computer problems everytime they put out a new update!

The roots of all this wonderful growth are definitely in good communication. Thanks to the many people out there who build, encourage, and sponsor open forums like BarCamp and PodCamp so that we have a place to exchange ideas. I can't wait to see everyone this weekend.

What were some of the ideas? Or is that being saved for another blog post?

Eric Cromwell is a class act. He and I got to work together on several projects when he was with the state econ development office. It was unfortunate that a lot of the initiatives that he was evangelizing didn't get Bredesen's support. A lot of this was due to TennCare's woes.

There's a lot to say about this topic. Tennessee (and Nashville specifically) has a very rich and depthful ecosystem of entrepreneurism going back decades. Unfortunately, architects and planners keep trying to turn it into the 'next Silicon Valley'. My advice: we're not Silicon Valley. There are many things about the Valley that work well, but there are just as many that don't. Be Nashville. Don't be the Valley.

It's funny how every one here likes or dislikes embarq, But Myself and several others in my area think embarq are money hungry, don't care about the little guy kind of company, I live in farm country but I am not a farmer, I am a computer tech, Embarq has so eloquently decided that because we live in the country we are not eligible to receive high-speed internet, well imagine my surprise when the engineering dept. said 5 to 8 years before we would get it in my area, and even more profoundly interesting is it is offered to people less then two miles from me, their justification is because I live in farm country their is not enough cause to put in a simple DSL relay amplifier because they wont profit immediately, Well as of 9 a.m. on Jan 31 2008 I have made it a personal mission to expose embarq as a greed based racketeering company that monopolizes small rural areas so no one else can sell phone or internet to these rural areas, My campaign as it may be called will involve calling senators, congressman and all the other governmental locations I can possibly think of, I will expose the greed and corruption that embarq has thrived on in these areas, I mean hell if the farmers can provide food a clothing for the people of the nation why cant big companies give them what they deserve for feeding and clothing their sons daughters and spouses. Is it to much to ask for embarq not question how fast they will gain cash vs. how happy their customers are? You tell me! Only time and all the heat they are going to get will tell.

He is totally back! Welcome back, Marcus.
And glad you're finding some value again in Facebook. Funny I've had a very similar experience the last 2-3 weeks as well.. it's as if old friends are coming out of the woodwork.
Glad to hear you're well, and looking forward to seeing you at PCN.

And we still need to have that beer we talked about a while back...
